2008 AASC Awards of Excellence

Congratulations to the 2008 AASC Award Winners!


The Awards of Excellence are a way to recognize members who go above and beyond the call of duty by utilizing extra time, effort, creativity and skill in their position as a service coordinator. This year's awards were presented during the Awards Luncheon, held Monday, October 6 from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. Congratulations to this year’s winners. You are all shining representations of the faculty of service coordination to truly make a difference.



President’s Award – Shawn West
Alliance Towers/AIMCO, Alliance, OH

The AASC President’s Award is the highest honor bestowed on a service coordinator, given to someone who serves as the best example of the diligence, drive and care that has come to define our profession. This year's award goes to service coordinator Shawn West, who has gone above and beyond his job duties working with the senior and disabled residents of Alliance Towers by also working with troubled youth in the surrounding communities through his non-profit organization N.O.T.H.U.G.S.



Resident Education Award – Winnie Tsai
Jefferson Terrace/Seattle Housing Authority, Seattle, WA

The Resident Education Award winner provides residents with a greater understanding of how service coordination can enrich and improve their lives through education about topics and issues of concern in their apartment or larger communities. This year, the award goes to Winnie Tsai who has gone above and beyond her duties as a service coordinator by creating and coordinating various educational workshops, programs and clinics for residents in her building to ensure they receive the best possible information on the topics most important to them.


Working with the Community At-Large Award – Dorris Windham
The Towers of Jacksonville, Inc., Jacksonville, FL

The Working with the Community at Large Award winner serves and strengthens relationships between the residents’ community and the greater community. This year, the award goes to Dorris Windham, who not only works diligently to meet the needs of her residents, but is also very involved in the surrounding Jacksonville community where she works with various organizations to help share her expertise and reach out to others in need.


Stephanie Tubbs Jones Public Service Award – Congresswoman Maxine Waters
U.S. House of Representatives, Los Angeles, CA

The Stephanie Tubbs Jones Public Service Award is given to someone who gives of his/her time, energies and resources for the good of the service coordinator profession. Congresswoman Maxine Waters is receiving the award this year for her ongoing efforts to promote and continue the growth of the service coordinator profession and her tireless efforts to ensure that affordable housing and housing supports are provided to working American families, seniors and others with disabilities. (The award is in honor of Ohio Congresswoman Tubbs Jones who passed away earlier this fall.)
